How we source
- Brief: We learn your store, your customer, your category gaps.
- Match: We propose 5 to 10 brands from our roster that fit your positioning and margin model.
- Negotiate: MOQ, exclusivity, payment terms, and US labeling handled with the manufacturer in Korean.
- Compliance: FDA OTC review, INCI naming, MoCRA registration if needed, and bilingual packaging spec.
- Deliver: Freight, customs, and warehouse intake, door to your shelf.
Case study
How a regional spa chain added $40K/month with a K-Beauty wall.
When a 6-location spa chain in the Pacific Northwest wanted to expand their retail revenue, they came to Luxmetics with a budget but no shortlist. We proposed 8 brands; they selected 4. Six months later, retail accounted for 22% of total revenue. Results: +$40K monthly retail lift, 4 brands launched, 6 months from intro to in-store.
Questions, answered
Can I see your full brand roster before signing on?
Yes. After a short intro call we share the full 150+ brand roster under NDA so you can browse by category, price tier, and channel fit.
What’s your typical MOQ for a new account?
MOQs vary by brand and channel; we structure them around what your account can realistically move and confirm exact figures per brand during the matching step.
Do you handle exclusivity in my territory?
Where a brand allows it, we negotiate territory or channel exclusivity as part of the terms.
Who owns the FDA / MoCRA registration?
We coordinate it end-to-end and advise on whether the brand or your account should hold the registration based on your model.
What if I want a brand that’s not in your roster?
Tell us. We regularly open new manufacturer relationships on behalf of clients.
How we vet a brand
The roster’s value is not its size. It is what we decline to put in front of you. A Korean brand can be excellent in Seoul and still be a bad first order for a US account, and the gap is almost never about the formula:
- Can the factory register? MoCRA obligations attach to the manufacturing facility. A brand whose ODM will not cooperate on registration is not exportable, however well it sells at home.
- Do the claims survive translation? Korean functional-cosmetic language routinely becomes a US drug claim. If the brand’s whole positioning rests on a claim that cannot be made here, the repositioning cost is real and it belongs in the decision.
- Is the supply real? Lead times, minimum runs and the brand’s honest capacity when a US account reorders three times in a quarter. A stockout in month four does more damage than a slow launch.
- Is the channel clean? Whether the brand is already being sold into the US by grey-market sellers, and at what price. You cannot build a margin on a shelf someone else is already undercutting.
- Will they hold a price? A manufacturer that discounts to the next buyer behind you is a pricing problem you inherit.
We ask these in Korean, directly, before a brand reaches your shortlist.
What has to exist before a first order
A first purchase order moves quickly when this list is already true, and stalls for months when it is not. We close these gaps as part of the sourcing work rather than handing you a task list:
- MoCRA facility registration and product listing, with a Responsible Person named on the label.
- An INCI ingredient deck that matches the Korean original and the English carton, in the same order.
- US-compliant artwork — ingredient declaration, net contents in both unit systems, and the RP address.
- GTIN or EAN per SKU, matching the printed barcode.
- Case pack, inner pack and pallet spec with real dimensions.
- Shelf life and lot coding that satisfy remaining-life-on-receipt terms.
- Written terms: MOQ, payment, exclusivity where granted, and Incoterms in writing rather than in an email thread.
Matching a brand to a price tier
Korean bestseller charts are a poor shopping list for a US shelf, because they rank on a home market with different price expectations, different climate and a different retail structure. What travels is category fit at a defensible price tier:
- Entry tier — high-velocity, low-consideration items that build basket size and introduce a customer to the section. They rarely carry the shelf on their own, and they are the most exposed to marketplace undercutting.
- Core tier — the routine builders customers come back for. This is where repeat revenue and most of your working margin actually sit, and where a stockout costs the most.
- Signature tier — the brand a customer walks in specifically to buy, or the one your therapist recommends by name after a treatment. Fewer SKUs, higher attach rate, and the tier that justifies the section existing.
A shelf that is all entry tier moves units and makes no money. A shelf that is all signature tier looks impressive and turns slowly. We build the mix against your actual traffic and ticket, and we would rather propose four brands you can keep in stock than a roster you will be discounting by spring.
